Sergei Rachmaninov’s “BOGORODITSE DEVO” from his All-Night Vigil (1915), is one of the most beloved works in the Russian choral repertoire. Setting a traditional Orthodox prayer to the Virgin Mary, the music combines profound simplicity with Rachmaninov’s rich harmonic language, creating an atmosphere of serenity, warmth, and devotion.
This arrangement for clarinet quartet seeks to preserve the flowing vocal lines and luminous sonorities of the original choral setting. The clarinets’ ability to blend seamlessly while maintaining expressive independence makes them particularly well suited to conveying the work’s gentle lyricism and spiritual character.
