“ICE, LIKE FIRE” is an exploration of AI assisted composition for choir. The creative process began with the collaborative writing of a single verse of text using ChatGPT. This text was then used as the basis for a song generated by Suno AI from a simple text prompt. The resulting audio, featuring solo voice and a synthesized accompaniment, was manually transcribed and reimagined as a choral work. The melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and text were subsequently revised and developed, resulting in the present composition.
If possible, each singer should perform while holding a crystal glass filled with water and tuned to the pitches indicated in the score. Sound is produced by wetting a finger and gently rubbing the rim of the glass in a circular motion. Where crystal glasses are unavailable, the piano part provided in the score may be used as a substitute.
