Grade 3.
Arranged for TTBB choir.
The hymn “O LOVE, THAT WILL (WILT) NOT LET ME GO” unites a deeply personal text by the Scottish minister and hymn writer George Matheson with the noble melody St. Margaret by the English organist and composer Albert Peace. Matheson wrote the text in 1882 during a period of profound personal reflection, expressing an unwavering trust in the sustaining love of God through loss, sacrifice, and hope. Peace composed the tune two years later, creating a setting whose warmth and dignity have made it one of the most enduring hymn melodies in the English-speaking world.
This arrangement for TTBB choir preserves the hymn’s reflective character while exploring its rich harmonic and expressive potential for men’s voices.
