“SHINE ON ME” is a traditional African American spiritual whose exact origins are unknown. Like many spirituals, it emerged from the oral traditions of Black American communities, where songs of faith, hope, and perseverance were passed down through generations. The repeated prayer for divine light to “shine on me” expresses a longing for God’s guidance, comfort, and presence in times of hardship.
