The text of “SYNG MIG HJÆM” (Sing Me Home) was written by Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and is one of his most poignant reflections on homeland, memory, and reconciliation. Written from the perspective of someone longing to return to Norway at the end of life, the poem expresses a deep desire to rest once more among familiar mountains, sea, and the earth “by my mother.” Alongside its love of country, the text also conveys forgiveness and hope, imagining that past hurts may be healed and that one’s life and song may ultimately be understood.
